So who wants a freebie? I got an e-mail today with a link for a free download of Sam & Max Season Two, Episode 1: Ice Station Santa.
So, I'll put it up to you guys to see who wants it. And the winner of this free game will be totally up to my discretion, so bribe me, make me laugh, something to justify why I should give you the link.

So... I discovered last night that I've been using the wrong edition of my textbook for ACC 221 all semester, which the bookstore sold me as the correct book for this course.
No wonder so many of those tests were damn hard!

I'm digging Safari... However, my biggest complaint is how difficult it is to open something up in another tab. It seems to want to open in a new window so badly.
Center-click = new window.
Can't seem to default things to open as a new tab.
The options say, ctrl-click and ctrl-shift-click should open in a new tab. It works sometime, but if I'm opening something from GMail, it still opens in a new window.
I have to right-click and then tell it to open in a new tab, if I want it to work that way.
Otherwise, I'm happy with just about everything, excluding how it handles rich formatting on blackboard. (But that's not huge.) And I can't center-click to close a tab, but with the X on the tab, that's not huge either.

New Kids on the Block to Reunite
They may be pushing 40, but the New Kids are returning to the block. The Boston boy band New Kids on the Block, which sold 70 million albums in the 1980s and early 1990s, has reunited and plans to release a new album and go on tour. The reunion comes 20 years after the release of the group's multi-platinum album, "Hanging Tough."
Let the heckling commence...

Post on this meme.

I'll have to admit, I watch very few monster movies. Actually, with my schedule over the past few years, I watch very few movies in general.
I watched bits and pieces of one in the past year with vivvianne1 and ducttapeavenger while I was working on homework and got sucked in. (And didn't get all my homework done, IIRC.) It was a zombie movie, where they decided to go hide out in a bar. Yeah, I know, real descriptive.
Although, I don't know if the zombie genre quite falls under the category of monster movie. When I think monster movie, I think one big bad monster, whereas depending on how you look at it, zombie movies are more comparable to either an epidemic or a commentary on society.
I just don't think I've seen many at all. Not recent or the classics. I've seen "Army of Darkness," which doesn't quite qualify. Buffy is a vampire movie, but it's a little different as well. I remember somehow recently seeing bits and pieces of the original "American Werewolf in London," at some point. Back in high school I have very fond memories of "Uncle Sam Wants You Dead" and "Jack Frost," but that was for MST3K value.
I know, I am backwards an unenlightened. I'll have to have a geek gathering/movie marathon at some point and see all of what I have missed.

Yet Another Meme... (But at least I'm choosing interesting ones, yes?
Everyone has things they blog about often. Everyone has topics they tend to avoid.
Challenge me to get out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about much, but you'd like to know from me, and I'll write a post about it.

Nifty. So, I get home today, due to a sick kiddo and log into the PC hooked up to the television.
What am I prompted with? A prompt from Quicktime/iTunes update to install Safari.
Ok, why not...
Wow, I am impressed with how much quicker it is than Firefox, especially on Gmail.

Good Wednesday Morning LJ! LG Report Nothing to report since she's on spring break.
Grunt-Grunt Report Yesterday was the second day in a row she got high praises from her teachers about how well she listened.
She's had only relatively minor behavior problems before, the most frequent complaint being that she doesn't listen, especially when it's time to move from one task to another.
Monitor Update Still no new monitor.
The tech guy came down and said, "Do you want a second monitor to see if that will solve your problem?"
Me: Nope, I'll wait on the big one.
And I showed him the diagram from the e-mail I sent.
School Update Three of my classes work on a Wednesday to Tuesday schedule. I've been trying to make a concentrated effort recently to get ahead. Last night was the first night this semester that I wasn't scrambling to get a ton of homework done. Don't get me wrong, I still had work to do, but it wasn't "OMGWTFBBQ!!! I have how much due by when????"
Today Need to run by the bank for a deposit and run by the Dr's to pick up my Rx. Need to get a metric ton done on work stuff. Need to do my test for ACC 221, along with at least getting started on reading for other classes. And probably need to call the insurance company for my declarations page for my insurance coverage during DragonCon, so I can finally forward that to Visa so they'll cover the broken mirror on the rental car.
And I think that's it for now. Have a great day!

Good Monday morning Livejournal... LG Report Yellow day on Friday. But no regular school again until April 8th.
Weekend Report An ok weekend. Both of the girls got hair cuts. Grunt-Grunt got just a trim. The LG got a little bob-cut that looked very cute on her. My Saturday was ok. I worked on homework, watched Duke fall out of the NCAAs, and then spent a lovely evening with vivvianne1 and a couple of her friends.
Sunday, I worked, found the restaurant dead and overstaffed. (A lets make no money combination.) So I decided to leave early. Spent some time with the girls, a little more homework and settled in with some Civ IV with ducttapeavenger.
Yes, I know I have an exciting life. ;)
Thoughts on the Duke loss. Apparently, 7 of the Duke players came into this weekend with the flu. Yeah, that'd do it. All-in-all though, this was an excellent season. 28-6 with 7 Sophomores/Freshman and most of the season no true center. I have seen many of the Duke "fans" trashing them for the early exit. We've raise the expectations because of our consistent excellence, to the point where nothing less than a Final Four/National Title is enough for some fans.
And I say to those so called fans, "Screw you!" I may not like that they're out of the tourney early, but I appreciate the accomplishments both the coaching staff and those young men achieved this year. Congrats on an excellent season guys. I am most-definitely looking forward to next season.
Monitor Update That's for a later post.
That's it for now.
Have a great day!

Good morning livejournal... Happy Birthday Happy birthday to sunyata__!
LG Report Green day yesterday! Big YAY!
To all my pagan-y friends. A very happy Spring Equinox/Oestara to you all.
Plans I came into work early today to get some work done before my dentist's appointment at 9:30am. I'm still undecided whether I'm coming back to work after the appointment. I've got quite a bit to do before the end of the month at work. But I've also had a real focus this week on getting *ahead* on school work, for really the first time since I started back to school. For too many semesters now it's been, "OMGZ, I have to do this by 11pm, go go go!" If I get ahead, I can work within my energy. Low energy night? Ok, take one off. High energy night? Yeah, lets get some stuff done.
I'll probably decide while sitting in the dentist's chair. If they have to yank the tooth, um yeah, definitely done for the day.
PSA Kids, let me serve as an example to you. Brush your teeth thoroughly twice a day!
Linkage This article sums up a lot of how I feel about this season. Excerpts below.
There is a theme - this year’s Duke theme in the media if you will - that Duke is not Duke anymore, that losing in the tournament is more typical. That’s a pretty simple-minded analysis.
We’re in a very different environment now. On the one hand, truly great players usually only stay a year or maybe two. What Coach K used to do, building a program by moving freshmen through year by year, having a core that y ou could count on and augment incrementally, that world is gone and that standard of judgment is gone. UCLA is having a run now; Michigan State had one, UConn’s had theirs as well. Seen any Gators lately?
...
Still, except for last year, when Duke had a significant dip, Duke has overcome serious depth problems, serious experience shortfalls, and has continued to win between 25 and 30 games, last season again excepted.
In many respects, this new competitive environment has brought out a phenomenal level of creativity in Krzyzewski, and he has done some of his best work in some of the most difficult circumstances since he established his program as one of the finest in the history of college basketball.
Without a big man, with one senior and two juniors (not counting the injured Marty Pocius), this team was completely reinvented and has won 27 games.
That's it for now. Have a great day!

Quick Question... Does anyone happen to know how they determine the times of the 2nd round games? I'm trying to make some plans for this weekend and assuming no OMGZ super-major upset on Thursday, Duke should be playing on Sat. But I can't find the times anywhere...

Zombie... So let me tell you all a story, that involves two cute little princesses.
These two little princesses came to live with their father a few months earlier. At the time, he was low on gold, so as a temporary fix, he got small beds, filled with air, for the princesses to sleep on until he could afford to get them real beds. Due to the size of their room, he decided that beds stacked upon one another would be the best option for the princesses, so that they still had room with which to play their princess games. Finally, he got together enough gold and was able to order the "bonk beds" as the princesses called them. After many many issues with the bedmaker, (that's another story altogether) the bonk beds finally arrived.
So, while the girls went off to visit their grandmother, the men of the household went to work constructing the beds. (That is a pending post.) Well, when the princesses arrived back from their grandmother's place, they were very excited about their new bonk beds with sheets, comforters, and pillows that had pictures of famous princesses from the kingdom of Disney. In fact they were a little too excited. At bedtime, there was a power struggle between them and the lady of the house. Finally after hours of combat, they gave in and let sleep overtake them, but much later than normal.
And not for long...
All this while, their father, deposed from his throne, was slaving away at a local eating establishment to earn gold with which to provide for his family. Shortly before the doors were to be locked for the night, a group of nine walked in, demanding to be fed. This forced the former ruler to leave much later than initially anticipated. In addition, he had to stop by the local shop owned by Mr. Walton on his way home, to purchase supplies for the princesses' tutoring the next morning, which put him past the witching hour when he finally walked through the door. He stumbled into bed and was quickly off to the realm of dreams.
But back to the princesses...
You see, the oldest of these two princesses was much much too excited about the new bonk beds. This excess energy caused her to stir from her slumber, when normally dreams would be dancing through her head. A room for princesses obviously needs a castle, she decided when she arouse from her sleep. So she built a castle of brick-blocks in the middle of her room. Shortly thereafter, she decided that a castle so grand needs someone else to appreciate it. She looked to her younger sister to find praise in her architecture. However, the little princess knew it was time to sleep, so ignored the requests of her older sibling. However, the older princess was not to be deterred. She knew that as of late, it had still been dark when the electronic rooster crowed. If she could convince the rooster to crow early, why then, the little princess would think it was morn. So she, in a somewhat haphazard fashion, convinced the rooster to crow. Had the rooster awoken the lady of the house or the deposed king, it would have ended there; however, the princesses had left the two quite exhausted and the rooster was silenced quickly, so they remained deep in sleep.
This was enough to convince the little princess to arise from her bonk bed. She got up, but as young princesses tend to do at times, they were caught due to giggling. The lady of the house, who had learned to be alert to such noises, awoke due to the giggling. She turned to the deposed king and requested that he go deal with the awake princesses. At first, he thought it was her imagination, until he heard the giggling himself.
So when he left the comfort of his bed and walked into the princesses' room, he saw the older princess dressed for her lessons the following day, the younger princess half-undressed, and a castle of brick-blocks in the middle of the room. Needles to say, he was not pleased, as it had only been four hours, since his head first hit the pillow. He drew the story of what occurred from the little princesses and then he bade them to get back into their sleeping clothes and return to bed or else suffer the wrath of the ogre he might become. Once they were once again properly dressed and the electronic rooster was properly told his original instructions, he stumbled back to bed.
Then, after all this, when the rooster again crowed, the older princess the next morning responded to her father's entreaties to get out of the bonk beds, "But daddy, I'm really tired now!"

Out of curiosity...
ducttapeavenger and myself have been considering setting up a Civ 4 pitboss server.
We probably will do it at some point, but if/when we do so, does anyone on my F-list play and would be interested in playing?
(Basically, it's a constantly running server, it'd have a 24 hour timer and be turn based with e-mail set up. So when it got to your turn, you'd get an e-mail and have to play your turn within 24 hours or you'd get skipped and it would be the next person's turn.)
