more world crumbling
1. The day I was able to go back to work is the same day that Chris lost his job. He/We have been scrambling to find him a new one. My paycheck will not stretch very far.

2. Had another seizure sun night/mon morn around 3am. spent morn in ER. was put on seizure meds and am not able to drive.

3. Found out the my gf/lover is 11 wks preggo. I would have been 18 weeks along. Thought about planning to try again, but now with the seizures and the meds, it is not even a possibility right now.

I feel like I can't catch a break.

Get Free Airport Wi-Fi with a Simple URL Hack [Wi-Fi]

wi-fi-airport.pngBlogger Felix Geisendorfer points out a clever URL hack that scored him free Wi-Fi at the Atlanta airport.

I found that I could easily visit sites like slashdot, Google, or even this weblog, when adding a ?.jpg at the end of the url. The next logical step was to automate that. I downloaded Greasemonkey and wrote a 4 line script that would add ?.jpg to every link in a document. That way I was able to browse most sites without a hassle.

This trick will only work on Wi-Fi networks that allow images to go through without a redirect, and though it may seem like a bit of a stretch, it's better than shelling out $7 for 30 minutes of Wi-Fi. Unfortunately the author didn't make the Greasemonkey script available, but even without it you could get in some decent browsing. The post isn't new, and I haven't tested this, so if you've ever used this trick or you're at an airport or Wi-Fi hotspot and can give it a try, let's hear how it worked for you in the comments. Writer's Block: Your Favorite Series: One Last Go Round

If you could pick any TV show that has been off the air to come back for one more season, which show would you pick and why?

I've got the comics for Buffy and Angel, and apparently they are revamping "Cupid" so those are out.
I don't think "Journeyman" got enough of a shot, but the shows I would have loved to see more of are"Freaks and Geeks" and "Firefly." Since Joss gave us "Serenity" I opt for more "Freaks and Geeks"

Soak the Sun
I had to do a tire change at Edgewater HS in two inches (and growing!) of standing water. My shoes are soaked, and these are the sneakers I changed into when my boots got wet. I'm on my way to get new socks and shoes on orders from the wife. I may have to do another tire change now... ARGH.

Quick Media Converter Converts Audio or Video to Any Format [Featured Windows Download]

Windows only: Free application Quick Media Converter converts virtually any audio or video file from one format to another. Like previously mentioned WinFF (and several other media conversion tools), Quick Media Converter is really just a graphical front end for the powerful command line tool, FFmpeg. But where FFmpeg takes some command line chops to use, Quick Media Converter couldn't be more simple. Just drag and drop a file you want to convert into the app, pick an output format, and let QMC and FFmpeg take care of the rest. It supports everything from DivX and Xvid to Xbox and iPhone output, with icons that make it dead simple to pick the right type. Quick Media Converter is freeware, Windows only.

Mmm...
We're getting those feeder bands from Fay today. Lots of wind, but they only gust up to about 20mph, nothing like the east coast. Plenty of sporadic rain, which looks like we'll have for days, but nothing too bad.

*hugs everyone in Fay's path* I feel sorry for those over in Melbourne.

Unclutter Google Reader by Analyzing Your Trends [Google Reader]

reader-trends.pngWeblog My Mind Leaks posts a detailed guide to uncluttering your Google Reader feeds by using Google Reader Trends to prune items you don't need or read. The author walks through his own feeds, analyzing which feeds he reads, which he doesn't, and which deliver too much content for him to keep up with. We actually suggested that Google Reader Trends could be a great way to prune your RSS feeds when the feature first dropped, but this post details several useful tips for doing just that.

So Deliciously Busy!
So So busy!

Thank you everyone for your fantastic support of doom. I'm finally glad I got the gumption to do it, and I honestly couldn't do it without everyone's support. Dear LJ thank you for hearing me whine, cry, sob, throw a temper tantrum and such. You've seen me grow up haven't you?

Moving on.

For those lamenting the cost of my mini op hats I'm currently working on a super secret project (available next week or perhaps even tonight with the way I'm working) that will be a nice price break for you.

Speaking of hats there are two new ones up! My Wylde Bonny Mini Hat and myPirate Bunny Mini Hat Set . Go seeee.

I'll be answering comments and reading everyone's journals this evening!

Also lovings and snuggles and thanks to [info]shadesong the fantastic who linked me in her journal of dooooom.

Faye, Faye, go away...
It has gotten progressively worse with regards to wind, rain, and general nastiness over the course of today. I am on my way to do a tire change now, and am certain to get at least a little soaked.
I am feeling a great deal of distaste for my job lately. Hell with that. Honestly, I hate it. I hate the people, the management style, the hours. Everything. If anyone has any leads on technology jobs in the Orlando area, I'm looking for something in the electronics testing, repair, assembly, or general support areas. Leave me a comment if you have anything for me and I'll contact you by email.

Oh, did I mention that our company emergency/hurricane policy explicitly states that when the police ask people to stay inside and off the roads that ygrir request applies to the general public, but NOT to us? Yeah. Fuck that. I hate this place.

ETA: I say "fuck that" not because I don't particularly want to go out in a hurricane to jumpstart someone's car (which I don't, particularly) or because I have a problem with doing my job in the rain (which I *mostly* don't) but they really don't pay me enough to risk my life in arcrely inclement weather. I am not a cop or a firefighter. They don't pay me enough to do rescue work.

So if you are reading this... may I ask what drew you here?
So in an attempt to figure out:

1) Who is actually reading here.

and

2) What they actually want to know about.

I am going to ask you to let me know. My activities in several different places means that I have people I know from all over. I have people I know from Gaming, and people I know from School. There are some people that were drawn in because of my activities in the Filk Community and others think my spirituality is interesting.

At this point my "friends" list (discussion of that term is for another time) is well into the triple digits, and I have the memory of swiss cheese. (really, ask anyone that has ever tried to coordinate things with me. If it isn't in my PDA I will not remember it.))

There are multiple different things going on in my life at any given time. There are spiritual things, there are health things, there are family things, there are psychological things (ah, the fun of being cyclothymic) and there are school things. Oh and then there is of course that pesky day job thing.

Rather than tell you what all the filters I may or may not throw together are, if you could tell me what you are interested in about me, and preferably (if you remember) how you found me/met me (please do not assume I will remember). It will give me a better idea of what filters to put you on as I recreate them.

Also note that all comments on this post are screened and will remain so.

(and in theory there would be a "sex" filter, except that I think it has been 4 years since I journaled about that part of my life, but you never know)

This will get thrown to the top of my journal after the weekend, just so people know...

Jog/walk
I was talking to man last night at the climbing gym. He just joined a cross-country team at the local junior college, and I found myself curious what it would be like to be able to run. He's trained for marathons, and he's as thin and strong as you might expect. I told him that I was going to live vicariously through him, that I was a non-runner.

"You know, you don't have to be a non-runner," he said, and I let that settle in a bit, although I didn't say anything directly about that in the conversation that followed.

I thought of [info]elissali and what she'd told me about the Couch to 5k running program, and today I found myself in exercise pants, sports bra, running shoes, and t-shirt, feeling the heft of my body jolt along.

[info]aetherknight was out with me this morning; he dropped Dr. Sweetheart off at BART and then went out with me for coffee and pastries; then I ran into a drug store for a cheap watch. He helped me set the time, and just as I was taking my first few steps on my New! Jog/walk! Adventure! He hollered at me to remember sunscreen.

Pshaw, sunscreen.

You start off with stretching and a five minute warmup walk. I was timing things to the second, holding up my wrist and staring at the display.

I was scared stiff to try jogging. As the display started to tell me 10 seconds, 9 seconds, 8 seconds until I was supposed to start picking up my feet and running, I felt a surge of adrenaline.

Betty Baker doesn't run. She doesn't breathe hard. She is dainty and afraid and usually pretty sedentary.

And then, then there was no time left. 7 seconds, 6 seconds, 5, seconds, 4...
and as the clock counted down 3, 2, 1, I felt my feet start to speed up, and then

whoomph.

I was running. Me, overweight, sedentary, psychologically unprepared me, running.

And so. There was that.

Focus
Okay, here's the three foci in my life right now, aside from "good marriage, nice house, etc." I'm talking the Big Stuff (TM).

1. Get in shape.
~I think I want to be a runner, or long-distance. I don't know why, but I love the idea of looking back at where I am now and thinking "How did I get here?"

2. Master a second language.
~I have free college through Maria, so why not use it and do something that I can eventually turn into a job? I LOVE language, especially foreign languages, so this semester I'm going to try learning Arabic. If that doesn't work (I think it will) then I'll move on to something else.

3. Turn LARP USA into the largest LARP-related building material supplier in the United States.
~No, really. I just got an awesomely huge order for Plastazote (a sword-making material) that rekindled my thoughts on doing this. The move to Delaware had severely hampered things before, but I really think I've figured out how to do this without any problems or issues what-so-ever.
