Grue

[LJ Idol]

So here it is, once again 10am on Friday morning.

The topic is "I'm Super, Thanks for Asking!"

And I watched my team lose last night by 1, in overtime.

I've got a case of the blahs and a bit of a headache.

So I'm in the perfect mood to post about this topic. ;)

But LJ Idol waits for no man.

Why am I super?

Why should I plug myself?

Those are good questions.

I actually have been thinking quite a bit about this topic this week. It lead to a couple of questions I ended up posting in my LJ yesterday:

"Is what you're doing making you want to stand out from the crowd? Or blend into it?"

Or to give it more of an internal focus:

"Is what you're doing moving you towards what you want?"

By taking a look at your actions and applying them to some sort of filter, it allows you to possibly work around some of those self destructive behaviors that can eat away at you.

Personally, the more I think about this topic though, the more I don't like the premise of, "I'm super." "I'm good," I don't have a problem with. But super implies that things are right where they should be, to me, that leads to complacently. I don't want to think, "I'm super, I should just sit back and enjoy it."

I want to think, "X is good in my life. Y is doing ok, but I need to keep tweaking it. And Z, well, Z needs a hell of a lot of work. I need to put some focus on Z."

So, nope, I'm not super. I don't want to be super. I'd rather be ok and working towards getting better.

As the old rhyme from elementary school went:

Good, better, best
Never let it rest
Until your good is better
And your better is best

Best is unattainable. 'Cuz once you think you're the best, that's when the universe knocks you off your pedistal.

But you know, sometimes it's not the destination, it's the journey.

Second Verse, Same as the First

Yes, brain.

Yes, I know it's Friday.

No, we can not sit here and play on the internets all afternoon.

No, we really should get some work done.

And guess what, you have a test due by 2pm tomorrow and the kiddos will be over in the morning, so you're not really getting a rest tonight.

Oh really? You're going on strike you say?

Well, yeah, you're right, there's not really a lot I can do about it.

But come on! I mean, it's only a bit longer.

I know. I know.

~sighs~
