A friend of mine sent me this link:
50 Nerdy Pick-Up Lines
And I decided it was a current news story.
Some of these are pretty funny; however, this is the one that got me:
26. Baby, you’re a 9.999999999…but you’d be a 10 if you were with me.
However, if you look at it this way:
(Assume the .99999's go to infinity, otherwise this will make a very long post. ;))
9.999999... is the same as 10 x 0.99999
10x = 9.99999....
10x - x = 9.99999... - 0.99999...
9x = 9.
x = 1
Ergo: 10 = 9.999999999...
So, what exactly is this guy bringing to the table to make her a 10?
Another way of looking at this is:
10 = 9.9999999... + 1/(infinity)
So if her = 9.99999...
And in most math problems 1/(infinity) is reduced to 0. So back to the pick-up line at hand:
Him: Baby, you’re a 9.999999999…but you’d be a 10 if you were with me.
Her: So you're saying you're essentially a zero?
